Like many of you, I’ve spent a lot of time in reflection over the last week. And I have watched and listened as the fallout of our most recent election has begun to take shape across our communities here in North Texas. There have been countless phone calls and meetings and correspondence with concerned citizens over recent days. Many people have very legitimate concerns about the proposed platform of the incoming administration. The potential damage will be felt across all age groups and demographics. The Bible tells us that “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” It’s so important that it’s stated twice, in Matthew 12:34 and Luke 6:45, and in red letters. Our elected officials have shown and continue to show us their hearts. The choice of a plurality of the American people to live under the guidance of such depravity is difficult to comprehend. But all is not lost.
The resignation of the Collin County Democratic Party Chairwoman provides the opportunity to bring in fresh ideas and new strategies. After careful consideration, I have decided not to endorse any candidate for the upcoming County Chair election. I believe that each candidate brings unique strengths and valuable perspectives to the table, and it’s essential that the committee members tasked with selecting the next Chairperson have the opportunity to make an informed choice based on their own assessments. My focus remains on fostering unity and ensuring that we continue to build a dedicated core of engaged supporters. I trust that our County Executive Committee will select a leader who embodies our shared values and can guide us forward with integrity and vision.
As an observer of this process, these are some of the qualities I am hoping to find in the selected candidate:
Strong Communicator: Able to clearly and effectively articulate Democratic values and policy positions to diverse audiences within the community.
Inclusive and Collaborative: Fosters an environment of inclusivity, working to unite people across various backgrounds, perspectives, and communities.
Visionary and Strategic: Possesses a long-term vision for strengthening the Collin County Democratic Party and can create practical, actionable steps to achieve it.
Experienced Organizer: Skilled in grassroots organizing, voter outreach, and campaign strategy to mobilize community members and increase voter engagement.
Resilient and Determined: Capable of facing challenges and setbacks with a positive, determined attitude, inspiring others to stay committed and energized.
Community-Oriented: Actively engaged in the local community, understanding its specific issues and needs, and advocating for policies that resonate.
Transparent and Accountable: Practices transparency in decision-making and takes accountability, building trust within the organization and among supporters.
Empowering and Supportive: Empowers others to take initiative, develop their skills, and grow as leaders, building a strong, supportive team.
Data-Driven and Results-Oriented: Uses data and metrics to inform strategy, measure progress, and adapt approaches to increase effectiveness.
Adaptable and Open-Minded: Flexible in adjusting strategies based on changing circumstances and open to new ideas and constructive feedback.
Ethical and Principled: Upholds high standards of integrity and aligns actions with core Democratic values, setting an example for others to follow.
These qualities can help a leader effectively represent and grow Democratic communities while fostering an environment that supports collaboration, resilience, and progress.
As we consider the path forward, it’s essential that we prioritize finding a leader who is a coalition-builder and uniter, someone who can work with people from all corners of our community. We need someone who understands our community’s diversity and is committed to amplifying the voices of every Democrat in Collin County. Additionally, our new leader must be visionary yet pragmatic, passionate about both voter engagement and policy advocacy, and unwavering in the face of challenges. We need a Chair who will not only continue our party’s work but who will elevate it, inspiring each of us to engage our neighbors, strengthen our networks, and build lasting Democratic infrastructure here in North Texas.
Our work does not end with leadership changes or post-election reflections; in fact, it is only just beginning. Many of you joined and supported my campaign this year, and I am grateful for all of your efforts. As we watch the next chapter unfold together, I recall the commitment that I have made, “I stand with you, committed to walking beside you, to learning, to listening, and to lifting my voice in solidarity. I am committed to standing with you, to lifting my voice alongside yours, and to using the privilege I have to work for justice.” We know that opportunities can arise at any time, and when they do, I intend to be ready to stand up and ensure every voice is heard. Your continued support will be crucial in staying engaged, mobilized, and connected in anticipation of any upcoming opportunities.
Thank you, once again, for all that you do. I am honored to stand beside you as we continue the fight for a better Texas.
